Uncatalogued Species from a Dream I Forgot

Plate I — bioluminous orchid and attendant insect

A series of AI-generated illustrations that feel like pages torn from a naturalist’s field journal in a dream. Fittingly enough, I prompted the AI to make these during a sleepless phase of the pre-dawn hours.

I’m tempted to translate some of these into real watercolours or pencil drawings — there’s something here I want to chase.

Plate II — nocturnal teal-flower sentinel
Plate III — redfire bloom with hover-moth
Plate IV — bluewing surveyors in early dusk

Fascinating. I did not know about the Voynich manuscript till now. Thanks for bringing it up! Will definitely look into it.

Cool. These look good, it would be interesting to see what you did with them. (The things they made me think of other than the Voynich manuscript were: the flower garden in Alice through the looking glass, and that I found out relatively recently that Beatrix Potter was really a botanical illustrator (and that I once saw botanical drawings displayed in jars).
