A very big chapter of my life spanning decades closed this week. It was almost inevitable for it to come to fruition the way it did. As it’s a reasonable hour of the day to do so, I have reached out to “real life” friends and family for emotional support, and they have responded with genuine kindness and understanding, which is all I asked for and gratefully received.

As my mother who happens to be an author, and also lives in a different time zone, put it in a text message to me just now as she prepares for a good night’s sleep, this new development effectively is “closing a chapter, allowing you to open a new one.”

“That’s life”, as my dear father said with the little capacity he had left for speech in his last days. I had told him how sorry I was that his beloved dog Lulu had passed a few days before, at the ripe old age of 18. I realise just now those were effectively his last words to me. How fitting, wouldn’t you say?

This too shall pass. 😢🙏❤️‍🩹
